Dubai: The Ministry of Health and Prevention has banned one enhancing drug and issued a warning over two types of pharmaceutical products.

In a circular, the ministry said that the product Rhino 69 Extreme 50000 was recently flagged by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“The US FDA has informed us that the product, which is used as a dietary supplement for men, contained Tadalafil. It can be dangerous to people with heart disease, diabetes or high fat, especially among those who take other medicines that contain nitrates,” said the MoHP.

“We have issued a circular for health and pharmaceutical companies, government and private, to take action and withdraw the product from the market,” it said.

On its website, the US FDA explained that the undeclared ingredient Tadalafil, “may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, such as nitroglycerin, and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates. “

Dr Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Policy and Licensing at the MoHP, also issued caution over Ofev (nintedanib), which was manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim.

“The pharmaceutical product is used to treat pulmonary fibrosis and may cause serious liver injury, so health care practitioners should thoroughly examine the patient during the first three months of treatment,” said Dr Al Amiri.

He stressed that the product is registered with the Department of Medicine at the MoHP, and emphasised that the drug is safe and has not been withdrawn from the UAE market.

Caution should also be exercised for the Metaphage 500mg tablet, as its registration has been suspended by health authoorties following further verification of the product’s quality.

The product was manufactured by Kuwait Saudi Pharmaceutical Industries and was used for the treatment of diabetes.
